“US and Turkey agree for ceasefire at Syria”

US Vice-President Mike Pence – “The US and Turkey have agreed on a ceasefire at Syria. The YPG will withdraw in the next 120 hours. President Trump is thankful to President Erdoğan”.

US Vice-President Mike Pence met yesterday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan both one-on-one and with committee’s present, which he followed up with a statement during a press-conference at the US Embassy at Ankara. US Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo was also present during the press conference.

Mike Pence had the following to say during the press conference:

“It will be a pause for 120 hours while the US oversees the withdrawal of the YPG … Once that is completed, Turkey has agreed to a permanent ceasefire …”.

“Our team is already working with YPG personnel in the safe zone for an orderly withdrawal outside the 20-mile mark and we’re going to go forward together to bring peace and security to this region, I’m very confident of that …”.

US President Donald Trump also reacted to the news of a ceasefire with the following tweet(s):

“Great news out of Turkey. News Conference shortly with @VP and @SecPompeo. Thank you to @RTErdogan. Millions of lives will be saved!”

“This is a great day for civilization. I am proud of the United States for sticking by me in following a necessary, but somewhat unconventional, path. People have been trying to make this “Deal” for many years. Millions of lives will be saved. Congratulations to ALL!”

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also reacted to the news by saying the following:

“PAUSE OF TURKEY’S OP IN SYRIA NOT CEASE-FIRE …”

“Turkey will end the operation in northern Syria only after YPG/PKK terrorists leave [the safe zone] …”.

“When we pause the operation, the U.S. will stop the sanctions attempts, and we can only end the operation after the previous conditions have been met …”.
